How tall is your tree?
Pace back from the trunk, point your phone at the top, and we'll work it out. It takes about a minute, and it helps us quote accurately before we visit.
01 · Pace it out
Walk away from the trunk until you can clearly see the very top of the tree. Count your normal steps.
1 pace ≈ 0.75 m
02 · Aim at the top
Hold your phone upright, point the camera at the tree and tilt it until the crosshair sits on the very top. Then lock it.

The stick method
- 01Find a straight stick as long as your arm, from shoulder to fingertips.
- 02Hold it upright at arm's length, so the stick is as tall as your arm is long.
- 03Walk back from the tree until the stick exactly covers it: the bottom of the stick on the base of the trunk, the top of the stick on the treetop.
- 04Pace back to the trunk. Your distance from the tree is roughly its height.
