Hedge Cutting & Trimming

Clean Lines.
Healthy Growth.
Year Round.

From small garden boundaries to large established hedgerows, we cut and shape hedges of all species and sizes. Tidy results, full waste removal, and advice on timing to suit your hedge type.

A well-maintained hedge is both a boundary feature and a living structure that needs the right care at the right time. Cut too early or too late in the season and you risk disturbing nesting birds, damaging new growth, or producing a result that browns off and looks poor for months.

We cut hedges of all species, from privet and laurel to leylandii, beech, hornbeam, yew, and mixed native hedgerows. Before any job we check for active nests, advise on the best time to cut for that specific species, and use professional long-reach equipment to produce clean, level results.

What We Cover

  • Domestic garden hedges, all heights and species
  • Large leylandii and conifer screening hedges
  • Formal box and yew topiary shaping
  • Beech and hornbeam hedgerows: sides and top
  • Commercial boundary hedges: estates, schools, business parks
  • Overgrown hedge renovation and reduction
  • Hedge removal and root extraction where required

Timing & Nesting Birds

By law, you must not cut hedges between 1 March and 31 August if nesting birds are present. Nesting birds are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. We check for active nests before starting any job during this period. Outside of this window, autumn and winter are generally the best time for most species as the hedge is dormant and cuts heal cleanly by spring.

For hedges that need cutting in spring or summer, such as formal topiary or fast-growing privet, we carry out a nest check first and work around any active nesting activity.

“We see a lot of hedges that have been cut at the wrong time of year or taken back too hard. A bit of advice up front saves a lot of problems down the line.”

Questions

Asked before booking.

All FAQs →
Can you cut trees during nesting season?

Yes, with care. Under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 it's an offence to damage or destroy an active bird's nest. Between March and August we check every tree for nests before starting. If we find one, we'll advise delaying that part of the job until the nest is no longer in use. Many jobs go ahead without any issue. Best time to prune trees

My neighbour's tree is overhanging my garden. What can I do?

You can cut back branches and roots to the boundary line, but not beyond it, and the cuttings should be offered back to your neighbour. We can prune to the boundary on your side; anything more needs your neighbour's permission. If the tree has a TPO, the same consent rules apply whichever side you're on.

What happens to the wood and debris?

A full clean-up is standard. Green waste is chipped on site and taken away. Timber can be cut into logs and left for you, or removed. Where it's worth it, we mill trunks into planks for furniture makers and community projects. We're a registered waste carrier.
