Outdoor Wood Kitchen
Birkbeck Primary School,
Sidcup
When Birkbeck Primary School in Sidcup approached us about creating an outdoor wood kitchen for the school, we jumped at the chance to be involved. It's exactly the kind of community project that reminds us why we care about what happens to the timber we work with.
Rather than sending usable timber to chip or disposal, we were able to prepare and donate a variety of wood discs and sections of milled timber directly to the school: material that became the raw ingredients for their outdoor kitchen build.
Wood discs make fantastic natural surfaces for outdoor play and learning environments: robust, tactile, and completely at home in a school garden. The milled sections gave the school the structural material they needed for the kitchen frame itself.
As a Sidcup-based business, being able to give something back to a local school, and put timber to good use rather than waste it, felt like exactly the right thing to do. We hope the kids are cooking up a storm.
“This is what being a local business is all about. Good timber shouldn't go to waste, and kids should grow up knowing where materials come from. Hopefully it sparks a few questions.”
